Will the license your provide give permission for 100% of the song?
There are some songs that EMI CMG does own 100% of the publishing rights to. There are also thousands of songs where we only have publishing rights to a portion of the song. Once you have a copy of the EMI CMG license please take note of the list of songs you have requested. The license will list what percentage we own and also give you the other publishers, not affiliated with EMI CMG, that also need to license their portion of the song. Please note, that you do not have full rights to use or record any song until you have received licenses to cover 100% of the song.
In order to get in contact with these other publishers, the internet provides many great sources. Simply searching online for the publisher name or going to PRO (Performance Rights Organizations) websites can usually get you in contact with each publisher. Please go to these websites to track down the necessary publisher contact information.

If I use one of your recordings, why do I have to pay for two licenses?
There are typically two types of licenses needed when purchasing a license for a recording (master). Their is a license to use the song which is sometimes referred to as a mechanical license. This license fee is paid to publishers who then pay the song writers. There is an additional license to use the actual recording of the song. The recording (master) license fee is paid to the record label, then to the artist.
If you are recording your own version of the song, only the song writers need to be compensated which only requires a song (mechanical) license.
